Background of the Study

Emergency nurses frequently encounter life-threatening situations that require rapid and accurate decision-making. Their decisions are influenced by various factors, including clinical knowledge, experience, environmental conditions, and organizational policies. Understanding these factors is essential to enhance decision-making processes and improve patient outcomes in emergency settings.

Statement of the Problem

In Gombe State, Nigeria, emergency nurses face numerous challenges that may affect their decision-making abilities during critical situations. Identifying and addressing these factors are crucial for optimizing emergency care and ensuring patient safety.

Objectives of the Study

1. To identify the key factors influencing emergency nurses' decision-making in life-threatening situations in Gombe State.

2. To assess the impact of these factors on the quality of care provided.

3. To recommend strategies to support and improve decision-making among emergency nurses.

Research Questions

1. What are the primary factors that influence decision-making among emergency nurses in life-threatening situations?

2. How do these factors affect the quality of patient care in emergency settings?

3. What interventions can be implemented to enhance decision-making processes among emergency nurses?

Research Hypotheses

1. Both intrinsic factors (such as experience and knowledge) and extrinsic factors (such as environmental conditions and organizational support) significantly influence emergency nurses' decision-making.

2. Improving identified influencing factors will lead to better decision-making and enhanced patient outcomes.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on emergency departments in selected hospitals within Gombe State. Data will be collected through surveys and interviews with emergency nurses. Limitations may include self-reporting biases and variability in hospital resources and protocols.
